The Helen Donald Unit is a haematology/chemotherapy outpatient day unit who are looking for a Band 6 Chemotherapy Staff Nurse to join a dynamic and established team for 37.5 hours a week.

We are looking for an enthusiastic nurse with post registration experience, preferably within acute Medicine/Haematology/Chemotherapy.

It is a varied and interesting role which provides the opportunity to develop in knowledge and skills within the exciting field of haematology.

The Helen Donald Unit predominantly provides a variation of intravenous therapies and blood product administration. The administration of cytotoxic chemotherapy and the physical and psychological care of the patient and family is also a crucial part of the service which the Unit provides.

The working pattern is flexible within the remit of 07:30-18:00 and 07:30-15:30 Monday to Friday. If you are an enthusiastic nurse with excellent communication skills who would like to join our team then we look forward to hearing from you.

It is essential for the candidate to have an accredited cytotoxic chemotherapy course or SACT Competency Passport.

IV drug administration, phlebotomy, cannulation and blood administration are crucial skills to be able to work effectively within the Unit. Training on the procedure of venesection will be provided.

To care for long term central venous devices, for example PICC, Portacath.

To care for the patient receiving Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatments including specialised physical and psychological support of the patient and family.

To use protocols such as neutropenic sepsis and cytotoxic chemotherapy regimens once competencies are achieved.

To play an integral part in the provision of a comprehensive specialist nursing service for patients receiving systemic anti-cancer treatments, supportive therapies for Haematology and Oncology patients and ongoing care of patients with chronic haematology conditions requiring venesection and other biological therapies.

To administer intravenous treatments to patients from other specialities including Immunology, Rheumatology, Gastroenterology and Neurology.

To provide a high standard of care to patients and their families.

Assess care needs, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care.

Work in collaboration with members of the multi-disciplinary team. Key relationships are Haematology Consultants and Registrars, Haematology CNS, Technical Services in Pharmacy and Haematology teams in the London hospitals.

To practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Trust policies, procedures and guidelines.
