Summary

Band 3 Healthcare Assistants - Critical Care Team

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Band 3 Healthcare Assistant to join our busy Critical Care Team (ICU/HDU) at Epsom & St Helier University Hospital NHS Trust.

The base site for this post is St.Helier Hospital ICU.

St .Helier Hospital ICU currently comprises of 13 beds incorporating specialities including; emergency/scheduled general surgery, acute medicine and, renal.

Epsom Hospital HDU/ICU comprises of 8 beds. It predominantly provides care for elective surgical and acute medical admissions.

As Critical Care provision is a 24 hours, 7 days a week service, applicants will be expected to undertake internal rotation, including weekends, night duties and bank holidays.

In order to fulfil the job role, learning and development requirements, and service needs applicants will be required to work across both hospital sites.

The HCA role supports the clinical team in caring for critically ill patients and their loved ones, and ensuring clean and organised clinical areas. You would be responsible for providing fundamental aspects of patient care at the direction of the qualified nursing team to ensure critically ill patients and their loved ones receive high quality, dignified and respectful care.

We are looking for someone who is “hands-on” with healthcare experience, preferably in acute care, and who possess the following attributes;
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
• Ability to work confidently and collaboratively across professional boundaries and use your initiative.
• Ability to work flexibly according to the day-to-day service needs.
• Willingness to develop within this role.

The HCA role has been developed to support the clinical team in caring for critically ill patients and their loved ones, and ensuring clean and organised clinical areas. You would be responsible for providing fundamental aspects of patient care at the direction of the qualified nursing team to ensure critically ill patients receive high quality, dignified and respectful care.

We have a dedicated critical care education team. We will support you to develop your confidence and competence through a programme of supervised practice, bespoke critical care specific competencies and study days.

Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust provides a range of medical services to approximately 490,000 people living across southwest London and northeast Surrey. In addition, we provide more specialist services, in particular renal and neonatal intensive care, to a wider area, covering parts of Sussex and Hampshire.
