Summary
Opportunities for Career Development & Established Principal Investigators to join the Division of Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology
School of Life Sciences, University of Dundee
The School of Life Sciences came top for Biological Sciences across all UK universities in the recent Research Excellence Framework assessment. Researchers in the Division of Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology (MDCB), within Life Sciences, investigate molecular mechanisms that underpin cell and tissue biology in development and disease. We are seeking to appoint both talented new group leaders wishing to start an independent career and senior researchers with well- established track records in this area, to complement and develop current research. This includes investigation of gene regulation, cell division, protein trafficking and cell polarity as well as tissue morphogenesis, using approaches supported by shared facilities in proteomics, microscopy, cryo- EM, computational biology data and most recently human pluripotent cell culture. We are particularly seeking groups using human cell and tissue/organoid models to investigate molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying fundamental and disease biology.

Career development PIs enter a Tenure Track Programme, including a defined mentoring scheme, leading to tenure assessment at 5-6 years.
Outstanding in-house support
A critical component of our research success is the quality of infrastructure and in-house technical support. These include our Central Technical Services (media services and wash-up), health and safety, stores team, laboratory management and administrative support.

Opportunities to Translate
The School of Life Sciences is home to the National Phenotypic Screening Centre as well as the Drug Discovery Unit, which can facilitate assay development and small molecule screening.
Professional support
We provide our researchers with a range of professional and informal support systems to allow them to acquire new skills and develop their careers. Alongside access to the University Organisational and Professional Development (OPD) resources, courses and team, we provide additional opportunities for our tenure-track PIs. These include preparation for teaching, provided by the University Academic Skills Centre and the opportunity to attend the EMBL laboratory management course. Our technology transfer office, Research and Innovation Services (RIS), supports the licensing of university technology to industry and collaborative research programmes.
