Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified GP with a background or keen interest in Oncology to jointly lead the Imperial College Healthcare Non Site Specific (NSS) Rapid Diagnostic Centre (RDC).

Service Background:

The NHS Long Term plan has set out a vision to transform cancer care, with an aim to improve five-year survival figures for patients diagnosed with cancer and to diagnose three in four cancers at an early stage. As part of this strategy, NHS England and NHS Improvement have mandated the provision of a NSS RDC in each Cancer Alliance.

These centres are primarily focussed on assessing patients with non-site specific symptoms that are worrisome for a new cancer diagnosis and are to operate on seven key components: early identification, timely referral, broad assessment of symptoms, co-ordinated testing, timely diagnosis, appropriate onward referral, whilst throughout maintain excellent patient co-ordination and support.

Role Overview:

Imperial College Healthcare Trust have a well-established NSS RDC service. The post holder will jointly lead a team comprising of two GPs, two Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) and a Pathway Co-ordinator to:
• Deliver the highest quality of service to patients and those close to them
• Work collaboratively with consultants including radiologists, oncologists and haematologists to rapidly progress diagnostic investigations
• Drive the expansion of the service within Imperial and contribute to service evaluation activities in partnership with the Royal Marsden Partnership Cancer Alliance
• Contribute to research initiatives that are complementary to the priorities of the broader Trust

The GPwSI role will suit GPs who:
• Are medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration
• Have a background or interest in Oncology
• Want to develop their service management and leadership experience
• Relish the opportunity to develop their own ideas and initiatives
• Are committed to and passionate about improving the NHS

This is a substantive post offered for 4 PAs per week. The post holder will deliver face to face clinics at St. Mary’s Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital, and will have access to office facilities at St. Mary’s Hospital.
