Summary


A Clinical Skills Assistant Practitioner will actively participate in provision of educational activities undertaken within the Clinical Skills Centre and in clinical areas.

To assist in all require aspects of the daily running of the Clinical Skills Centre including assisting with training as part of Clinical Education and Development Team.

Communication with members of the multidisciplinary teams is essential in ensuring seamless and excellent provision of training.

The post-holder will be a highly organised individual with attention to detail to ensure minimal disruption of course delivery.

The role is flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of the health and social care systems.

Supervision and teaching of junior staff will be part of the role.

DUTIES OR KEY TASKS
• Primarily be based in the Clinical Skills Team, but will be expected to work flexibly across the service to provide support and training to support staff, particularly those new to role.
• Have the ability to act as a facilitator support staff completing the Care Certificate qualification (and their assessors).
• Have clinical credibility to act as a role model for clinical support staff in order to promote safe and quality care.
• Maintain the database ensuring compliance with the completion of the Care Certificate across the organisation.
• Must adhere to WUTH policies and procedures at all times.
• Must conduct self as required by the national code of conduct for healthcare support workers and work within the scope of own practice.

Clinical Responsibilities
• The role requires that the post holder spends time clinically with support staff to support them in achieving required clinical competencies within the CSW Core skills course, the Care Certificate and other relevant competencies.
• Supports bridging the theory practice gap through taking education to the workplace
• Maintain own clinical skills and competencies up to date in order to ensure clinical credibility and expertise within own scope of practice.
• Contribute towards clinical skills audit.
• Support Trust wide education projects when required
Management and Leadership Responsibilities
• Establish and maintain effective working relations with members of the multi-disciplinary team and relevant clinical areas to promote good communication to support completion Care Certificate, CSW Core Skills and other clinical competencies relevant to support staff.
• Work closely with managers and assessors of clinical support staff to ensure compliance with the Care Certificate.
• Be an effective facilitator to support all clinical staff involved with Care Certificate to ensure seamless completion of the qualification.
• Liaising with different departments as required to ensure enough training materials are available i.e. works, stores, supplies etc.

Educational Responsibilities
• Facilitation/delivery/planning of training courses including, Care Certificate workshops, simulation sessions, and all relevant clinical skills sessions.
• Lead on the organisation all the administrative work relevant to Care Certificate and CSW core Skills course.
• Facilitating training to meet the needs of the Clinical Education & Development Team
• Teaching and assessment of staff using competency framework
• Undertake development of session plans and project management
• Participate in simulation-based exercises including role play and facilitation on a weekly basis
• Support other teams with delivery of appropriate Trust-wide training.
• Use own initiative to ensure that training delivered in a relevant environment
• Support career engagement events
Administrative responsibilities
• Maintaining stock control of disposable items within the centre and ordering as appropriate via Oracle/NHS Supplies.
• Administrative tasks including answering the telephone, photocopying, binding and reception duties
• To assist with course bookings including maintenance of on line booking system
• To be competent in the use of recording training on OLM
• Assist with operation and maintenance of manikins
• Assist with operation of complex audio visual equipment and other technical equipment
• initiatives
• Communicate with managers, team leaders and other educators regarding complex training and booking issues.
• Maintenance of on line booking system/other administrative duties as required
