Pay Rate: Up to £21.51 per hour PAYE depending on experience

Hours per week: 36.25 Monday – Friday, normal working hours

Role Length: This opening assignment is for up to 2-3 months

City: Coalville, Leicestershire

The successful candidate will be providing proactive and customer focused legal advice with a commercial law specialism including drafting and interpretation ensuring compliance with internal systems and controls and legislative requirements and representation to the council.

Key responsibilities:

Providing advice and assistance on all legal aspects of procurement, tenders and contracts including interpretation, drafting, contract management, disputes and termination.
Ensuring compliance with procurement regulations and the Council’s Constitution
Advice on local government and contract and commercial law generally
Supporting income generation by providing advice to external clients in respect of commercial and contractual matters
Engaging in marketing activities including attending networking events, presenting training courses and writing website articles.
Supporting the Head of Legal and Commercial Services and Legal Services Team Manager to ensure legality in the Council’s decision-making process and that the council’s various committees, boards, groups and working parties have the appropriate level of legal advice and support
Attend or represent the Head of Legal and Commercial Services or Legal Services Team Manager at meetings (including evening meetings) of Council, committees, sub-committees and other boards, groups and working parties as requested.
Provide assistance to the Head of Legal and Commercial Services and Legal Services Team Manager on issues of corporate governance including officer / member training, review of the constitution, and providing advice on compliance and corporate governance.

Qualifications:

Qualified solicitor or barrister or Chartered Legal Executive.



Skills & Experience:

Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
Extensive post qualification experience in the relevant areas of the law.
Knowledge and understanding of two or more of the following: Contract and commercial law Local Authority vires/constitutional/governance issues Real Estate/Commercial Property law.
Demonstrable experience of persuasion and negotiation at a senior level.
Ability to provide creative and innovative solutions to complex procedural and legal issues.
Ability to work on own initiative and represent Legal Services at all levels within the authorities and externally.
Ability to give complex and specialist advice in highly sensitive and pressurised situations.
Ability to deliver pragmatic and cost-effective advice and solutions to clients.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
