Summary

Are you the right person for the job?

Experience in a children's home setting and knowledge of relevant regulations is essential.

• You will have an understanding of the key statutory guidance and legislation for safeguarding children which include:

• Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards (2015) Children Act 1989 and 2004
• Excellent understanding of guidance on children who run away and go missing from home or care (2014)
• Children Act 1989
• Every Child Matters 2003
• Care Standards Act 2000
• Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000


• Keep abreast of the ever-changing requirements of residential children’s homes legislations and initiatives.
• Ability to be an effective leader who works by example.
• Ability to build excellent rapport with staff, children and parents and outside agencies and the wider community for the best most effective outcomes.
• Ability to bring fresh ideas for implementation.
• Level 5 Diploma Children and YP or equivalent is essential.
• Self-motivated, organised, and flexible with excellent communication skills is essential.
• Compassionate, caring, and sensitive to the needs of others is essential.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team while also taking initiative is essential.
• You will be able to delegate and lead appropriately and adhere to health and safety policies.
• Excellent understanding and knowledge around the team around the child and their duties and responsibilities.
• Excellent experience of partnership working.
• Excellent multitasking skills is essential.
• Motivated self-started with the ability to think on your feet.
• Ability to manage and assess risk through risk assessment formalisation and safety planning.
• Ability to set deadlines and prioritise workload with timescales set by both self and organisation.
• Ability to conduct auditing diligently and effectively.

What will your role look like?

Key Responsibilities:

• Welcome children and young people upon arrival to SJD Homes and ensure all their needs are met.
• Provide advice, assistance, and support to children and young people.
• Initiate and facilitate meetings with staff members when required.
• Attend professional meetings for children and young people and when necessary, on behalf of the manager.
• Lead role in ensuring the care and welfare of each child and young person in placement is in line with the children’s home regulations 2015.
• Maintain the computer-based database ensuring all information is recording accurately and securely by staff and undertake quality assurance.
• Supervise and support Residential Support Workers to fulfil their responsibilities.
• Record staff supervision sessions and escalate concerns to the Registered Manager.
• Ensure staff well-being is monitored and where required necessary support is implemented timely.
• Facilitate team meetings and children and young people weekly meetings – with prepared agenda items.
