Summary

The Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint a locum consultant gynaecologist with experience in general gynaecology and one or more of the following subspecialties: -
• Hysteroscopy
• Colposcopy
• Vulva
• urogynaecology

This is a full time (10PA) fixed term post that will provide a consultant led outpatient service, as well opportunities to undertake cross covering for the team’s Gynaecology operating lists. This post will help to increase and improve the gynaecology cancer, diagnostic and treatment pathways as we have recently seen an increase in the acuity as well as numbers of referrals to the Gynaecology service. An indicative Job Plan is shown below, but actual timings may well change to fit in with the needs of the service and changing schedules. There may also be further discussions on opportunities for working within the maternity service, which will include an on call commitment.

The post will be based in the department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, within the Gynaecology Team. There will be an average of 9 PAs of direct clinical care , and 1 PA allocated for supporting professional activities (SPA). This post does not have an on call commitment.

The post holder will be expected to work alongside the Senior Management Team and contribute to the Service’s development plans, as well contributing to the overall key performance indicators for activity and patient experience

There will be fixed sessions for general Gynaecology clinics, special interest clinics, as well as with opportunities for Gynaecology operating. ( this may be a floating session)

The Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department is a busy and thriving one. There are 13 substantive consultants in obstetrics and gynaecology, who all have a “team” approach. In addition, we have 3 fertility specialists who run the Fertility unit.

The postholder will be expected to work collaboratively with the MDT and the other consultants within the Gynaecology Team to carry out best practice for patients undergoing gynaecology treatment. We expect that the post holder works in a proactive way to manage capacity within the outpatient setting, balancing clinical need with Trust and NHS initiatives for the reduction in follow up appointments within the service as well as the GIRFT principals for managing new patient attendances.

The post holder is expected to understand the changing policies and NHS structures in the Northeast London and North Central London and work within the RTT 18 weeks pathway. The post holder is expected to work closely with the clinical lead to have a positive impact on the appointment and treatment waiting times.

As a senior employee of the Trust, you will work in close co-operation with and support other clinical, medical, professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality, safe health care to patients. Integral to these responsibilities is the following:
• The provision of a first class service.
• Effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty.
• Supporting undergraduate and post graduate teaching and training
• Undertaking all work in accordance with trust policies and procedures including the Code of Behaviour
• Conducting clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of Homerton’s business plans
• Contribute to the management of the clinical service and service development
• To provide a comprehensive outpatient service, managing consultations and record keeping in a timely manner; ensuring the patient record is up to date in real time with follow on actions requested via the EPR and tasks completed in line with Trust and Service processes and SOPs
• running of clinical departments and the supervision of junior medical staff and specialist nurses. In addition, he or she will be expected to adopt an active role in the wider management arena within the directorate where appropriate.
