Summary

Job purpose:
I am a 35 year old man living in Porthcawl who has lost my sight following a road traffic accident in 2014. I would like to employ Personal Assistants to support me with my daily living, enabling me to remain independent. I enjoy going out for life experiences, learning new things and eating out. I have recently been accessing the cinema and would like to do this more often. I love technology and have a keen interest in gadgets that assist me every day. I am interested in developing areas in life that include the visually impaired and that gives more positive confidence. I have lots of other interests including comedy, good food, political and current affairs, a range of musical tastes and learning about areas locally. I am quite mobile and would like to walk more.

Hours:
24 hours per 2 weeks, times listed below. The rota is over a 2 week period with 24 hours in week 1 and 4 hours in week 2.

Monday 7 am to 9 am & 4 pm to 6 pm - 4 hours
Wednesday 7 am to 9 am & 4 pm to 6 pm - 4 hours
Friday 7 am to 9 am & 4 pm to 6 pm - 4 hours
Saturday 7 am to 9 am & 4 pm to 6 pm - 4 hours
Sunday 7 am to 9 am & 4 pm to 6 pm - 4 hours

Week 2
Day Time
Thursday 7 am to 9 am & 4 pm to 6 pm - 4 hours

Flexibility is essential for this role, as the times above may vary week on week depending on the employers’ commitments e.g. appointments and studies. Full notice will be given within an agreed time schedule.
Benefits:

£12.50 an hour. Wages are paid 4-weekly, in arrears.
5.6 weeks holiday per year (pro rata)
Sick pay at SSP rate, if eligible


Work Duties may include:
Helping with:
● Assistance with personal care including washing
● Administering eye drops
● Support with general grooming and appearance
● Helping to keep the house hazard-free; cleaning and laundry
● Preparing healthy meals and supporting me to learn to cook safely with my disability
Supporting:
● With accessing area, the gym and appointments
● With mobility, ensuring safety
● Providing company, support and transport when out in the local community
● Correspondence and enquiries
● Support with handling money
Undertaking activities:
● Shopping for food and other required items
● Preparing and cooking food to good standard
● Cleaning and laundry
● Helping with removal of rubbish and recycling
● Ensuring home is hygienic and safe
● Re-ordering items and prescriptions
Other requirements:
● Working in a safe way and highlighting health and safety concerns
● Assisting with management of my health risks
● Establish and maintain effective communication
● Maintaining confidentiality
Location and additional information:
● Within my home in Porthcawl and the local area.
Requirements for applicant:
● Car Driver with access to own vehicle is essential
● Good sense of humour
● Patience
● Experienced cook
● Someone who has similar interests
● Ability to understand and deliver the needs of the role
● Experience of supporting someone with a visual impairment/brain injury is an advantage
● Ability to undertake domestic activities
● Flexible, reliable and honest
● An enhanced DBS check will be required
Additional Information:
This post may require a DBS check (the cost of which will be met by Bridgend County Borough Council). If this post requires you to work with children then it is compulsory for you to have a DBS check prior to commencement.
