Summary

MAIN DUTIES:

1. To manage all day to day operations of the nursery including sale and marketing, HR, quality and health and safety.
2. To oversee the planning, delivery and monitoring of the nursery’s EYFS curriculum in accordance with the children’s social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs.
3. To effectively lead and manage the staff team including recruitment and retention, providing day to day guidance, training and support to all staff.
4. To supervise relevant staff on a daily basis.
5. To supervise volunteers, students on placements and work experience in the nursery.
6. To supervise the children where appropriate and to protect them from dangerous or harmful situations.
7. To share any child protection concerns immediately with the Nursery Owner/Designated Safeguarding Lead.
8. To provide a high level of care that will enhance the children’s general health and well-being.
9. To ensure all policies, procedures and curriculum's are implemented and adhered to at all times
10. To keep abreast of current early childhood thinking/trends
11. To effectively manage occupancy levels
12. To be the lead person for behaviour management in the nursery.
13. To act as a key person to a small group of children if needed and to ensure their needs are reflected in the planning of routines and activities.
14. To be aware of children’s special educational needs and ensure staff support these children effectively by liaising with the SENDCO.
15. To keep informative, accurate and up-to-date records, including records of progress and any behavioural or developmental reports.
16. To liaise regularly with parents/carers about their children’s needs, interests and progress.
17. To arrange and attend parents’/carers’ meetings to allow two-way discussion of their children’s progress.
18. To liaise with staff on menu planning ensuring the children receive a healthy, multi-cultural diet.
19. To hold, contribute to and attend staff appraisal’s/supervisions.
20. To attend and run regular team meetings.
21. To liaise and work in partnership with other agencies, both statutory and voluntary, where appropriate.
22. To attend any conferences, training events or meetings as agreed and to keep up to date with current good practice.
23. To adhere to the nursery’s policies and code of practice on confidentiality.
24. To perform any other duties as deemed necessary by the Nursery Owner.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Criteria:

1. A minimum Level 3 early years education and childcare qualification (e.g. Pre-school Learning Alliance Diploma in Pre-school Practice, NVQ 3, or equivalent) and a commitment to obtaining further qualifications as appropriate.
2. A proven track record in attaining Good or Outstanding OFSTED results under your direct management.
3. A sound understanding of child development and children’s needs with an ability to plan and implement an early years age/stage appropriate curriculum, taking into account the SEN Code of Practice, child protection procedures and equal opportunities’ considerations.
4. A sound understanding of Safeguarding including Prevent and the ability to work with multi-agencies and follow safeguarding procedures precisely.
5. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. This includes the ability to establish rapport and credibility with parents and the ability to produce clear, concise and well-written reports, e.g. for disciplinaries, business plans for recruitment purposes etc.
6. Ability to use Microsoft Office packages effectively and to produce reports and correspondence in a professional and accurate format.
7. Ability to prioritise own work and plan in advance for meetings etc.
8. Ability to build good partnership working relationships with staff.
9. Ability to communicate the need for quality and continuous improvement, and influences good practice through own example.
10. Ability to support the development of the team through regular discussion and team meetings which encourage two way communication and sharing of ideas and expectations.
11. Ability to communicate in a variety of ways and with people at all levels, and adopts a communication method appropriate for the listener or audience.
12. Experience of co-ordinating curriculum planning for a childcare and early education setting.
13. Pro-active, enthusiastic and self motivated.
14. Ability to remain calm under pressure.
15. Emotionally resilient and able to handle competing demands.
16. Able to work on own initiative.
17. Demonstrates professionalism in approach to managing all issues.

21. Demonstrable and detailed knowledge of current legislation relevant to the Early Years.
22. Excellent knowledge of health and safety legislation.
23. Knowledge of OFSTED standards
24. Excellent communication skills
25. Excellent business acumen and the ability to successfully plan for, and manage the commercial success of the setting.

Desirable:

1. Experience or knowledge of being a student/apprentice mentor.
2. Experience or knowledge of Quickbooks and/or invoicing.
