Summary

The successful candidate will be allocated a base firm for 4 months amongst colorectal, HPB or upper GI speciality firms. Rotation between teams will be required every 4 months as per the discretion of the rota coordinator. Rotation between firms will provide a diverse experience and breadth of clinical knowledge analogous to core training rotations. There will be opportunities to gain elective clinical experience from consultant-led ward rounds, clinics and theatre sessions. Emergency experience is ample and provided via oncall shifts on the surgical admissions unit and emergency CEPOD theatres.

These posts include participation in a rolling on-call rota involving long day shifts, twilight shifts and night shifts. This is a cross-site rota; elective and on-call duties will be spread between all 3 campuses in the Trust- Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital and the Glenfield Hospital.

Participation in the junior doctor teaching programme is expected and opportunity to partake in quality improvement projects will be available.

Our new strategy, 'Leading in healthcare, trusted in communities' was developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners and is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:
• high-quality care for all,
• being a great place to work,
• partnerships for impact, and
• research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
• we are compassionate,
• we are proud,
• we are inclusive, and
• we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.

This post is ideal for Foundation level 2+ level doctors as a bridge to applying for core surgical training or st3.
