Summary

The Clinical Teaching Fellow post is designed to develop the career of clinicians with an interest in surgery and medical education.Applicants must have a minimum of 12 months experience of delivering care in the NHS- please do not apply if you don't meet this criteria.

The post offers training in medical education for 12 months before the Fellow returns to full time training/clinical work in their own specialty.

This is role is designed to support Undergraduate teaching in the surgical specialties and perioperative care within UHL and to develop the teaching and educator skills of the applicant. It is ideally suited as a bridge between foundation programme and core surgery training. Equally, it could serve as bridge between core and higher surgical training. The role will offer opportunities to work on projects related to Postgraduate medical education that reflect current priorities at local and national level.

Post holders may have a variety of individual projects whilst in post, but all are expected to contribute to core teaching and assessment activities within UHL and University of Leicester Medical School. Applicants should be able to demonstrate an established interest in medical education, for example through previous teaching or postgraduate qualifications.

This Fellowship post will provide an opportunity to develop teaching skills and gain experience in a range of educational activities working closely with the undergraduate team in UHL.

The Fellowship principally supports Year 3 undergraduate teaching and will be a combination of informal bedside teaching and more formal tutorial/seminar based teaching relevant to the surgical disciplines (gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, , urology, vascular).

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

· high-quality care for all,

· being a great place to work,

· partnerships for impact, and

· research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

· we are compassionate,

· we are proud,

· we are inclusive, and

· we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.

A number of Fellows will support the surgical teaching for Year 3 medical students.

A typical timetable is shown below. It is anticipated that each postholder will focus on an identified surgical discipline for 6 months and then rotate onto another discipline to provide a breadth of experience.
