Summary


Junior Clinical Fellows in General Surgery
Full Time -12 month fixed term contract

We are looking for enthusiastic doctors at FY2 level or above to join the Surgical team at Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust.

There are 2 posts available in General Surgery.

These posts offer excellent opportunity for doctors wishing to enhance their CVs and gain experience in Surgery before commencing specialty training. The post holder will gain experience working on the combined General Surgery and Urology junior on call rota. Candidates will be assigned an educational and clinical supervisor who will provide support, career guidance and mentoring. There will be access to e-portfolio to document work-based assessments and reflective learning completed during this time.

In addition, the Trust is committed to the educational development of medical staff within this programme and candidates will have access to study leave and the opportunity to undertake/participate in one or more of the following:

• QIPP
• Teaching including simulation teaching
• Research (where offered)
• Postgraduate certificate in Medical Education
• Teach the Teachers
• Attend scheduled teaching and journal clubs
• Exposure to clinics / procedures
• EWTD compliant rotas




Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust is a large acute Trust serving South West London and Surrey. It comprises two Acute Hospitals: Epsom General Hospital and St Helier Hospital; Queen Mary’s Hospital for Children; Elective Orthopaedic Hospital (EOC) and a Private Patient Unit. There is a tertiary Renal Unit serving South West London, Surrey and parts of Hampshire. Our hospitals are busy and dynamic and the specialties offered are led by keen and enthusiastic consultants.

• Day to day management of surgical inpatients.
• Assisting consultants in the outpatient clinics and operating theatres.
• Participation in the on call rota and to provide cover in exceptional circumstances for colleagues’ absence.
• Assessment, care and treatment of patients presenting to the specialty and referred to the speciality.
• Teaching and training staff in other medical disciplines and mentoring of more junior trainees.
• Participation in relevant audit and quality assurance processes.
• Abide by the Clinical & Corporate Governance policies of the Trust.
