Summary


The Breast Screening Unit is looking for an individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to join its multidisciplinary team.

We provide screening over 4 sites: Chesterfield Hospital, Scarsdale and 2 Mobile units. Working as part of a flexible and hard-working team, the post holder will assist in delivering the high standards of the National Health Service Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP).

This post will involve accurate computer data entry and audit of screening results, together with dealing with clients both face-to-face and over the telephone in a courteous and efficient manner. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team you will provide comprehensive administrative support to the breast team. Applicants should have excellent computer/keyboard skills.

Answer telephone calls from breast screening unit service users. Book and change appointments for the mobile and static screening locations, according to the screening schedule, as requested by clients using the National Breast Screening Computer system (NBSS).
Liaise with the Office Manager, Deputy Office Manager to ensure women are offered the most appropriate location for their screening. Take messages and deal with enquiries appropriately maintaining a consistently efficient and helpful approach.
A clear understanding of the importance of confidentiality is essential for this role.

• To receive patients at reception and accurately record patient information onto the breast screening (NBSS), Radiology (CRIS) and Careflow computer systems.Access the NHSOn Line Enquiry site to ensure data accuracy.
• Prepare all documentation for base and mobile sites prior to screening clinics.
• Perform all post clinic tasks to ensure images are ready for reporting by film readers in timely manner .
• Request and send images via IEP as required and import into PACS ready for review by radiologists and radiographic staff.
• Answer telephone calls and screening unit emails. Book and change appointments as necessary for both screening and symptomatic patients. Take messages and deal with enquiries appropriately maintaining a consistently efficient and helpful approach.
• Participate in maintaining the appointments system for symptomatic and surveillance patients in consultation with the Consultant Radiologists, Radiographic staff and Surgical colleagues. Prepare all necessary documentation prior to clinics.
• Arrange biopsy appointments for in-patients and out-patients in liaison with clinicians. Prepare notes, x-rays and paperwork for ad-hoc clinics.
• Assist in the production and distribution of information to GP practices regarding the Breast Screening Programme and screening schedules.
• Promote and maintain good working relationships within the team and other Departments to ensure efficient smooth running of the service.
• To be aware of the Screening Programme Key Performance Indicators to meet targets and maintain standards.
• Participate in Regional and National update training as required.
• Maintain adequate supplies of stationery, Use email and the multi-function printer/photocopier.
• To be familiar with the Quality Assurance Guidelines. Participate in the Quality Assurance process and Quality Management System implementation.
