Chesterfield Royal Hospital is committed to recruitment, training and development and would like to offer the opportunity to train to become an Operating Department Practitioner.

An exciting opportunity has now arisen for a 3 year training contract to complete the BSc Operating Department Practice Degree / Degree Apprenticeship at The University of Derby.

At the end of 3 years if you have successfully completed the BSc Operating Department Practice Degree / Degree Apprenticeship then you will be offered a permanent Band 5 Operating Department Practitioner role and move on to the scrub, anaesthetic or PACU rota where you will then follow the Band 5 shift pattern.

As part of the multidisciplinary team within the Operating Department the Apprentice will play a vital role in the day to day operation and smooth running of the department. They will develop knowledge and skills to enable them to provide skilled assistance to clinicians’ during the administration and maintenance of anaesthesia and the undertaking of both scrub and circulating duties within a wide range of surgical specialities. They will learn to provide and maintain a safe environment for patients within the anaesthetic, scrub & recovery settings. They will also learn how to provide skilled care in the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit and ensure that the highest possible standards of individualised patient care are maintained at all times.

Chesterfield Royal Hospital is located in Calow, Chesterfield, which is situated on a green field site on the edge of the Peak District National Park. It is home to the Crooked Spire and is also close to Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham, thus offering numerous choices for recreational activities and lifestyles.

Chesterfield Royal Hospital was officially opened by the queen in 1985 and since then it has continued to expand and modernise, currently holding approximately 550 beds. We provide acute in-patient and out-patient care for Chesterfield and the surrounding rural area of North Derbyshire, serving a population of approximately 350,000 people.

We are currently rated GOOD by the CQC.
