Summary

Our client Scottish Power are currently recruiting for a Corporate Tax Accountant to join the team on a contract basis based in Glasgow City Centre.


This role would be a maternity cover role for 12 months.

Job Purpose Statement:
Work as part of the in-house tax team to ensure that the UK corporate tax compliance and reporting obligations of the UK group companies are met.
Assist with other tax matters, including tax planning, as required.

Accountability Statements:
• Preparation of corporation tax computations for UK companies in the Iberdrola Group to ensure that compliance obligations are met on a timely basis and internal timetable met.
• Responding to HMRC enquiries to ensure that enquiries are closed on a timely basis and satisfactory agreement reached.
• Preparation of corporate and deferred tax provisions under IFRS for UK companies and UK sub-groups to allow sign off of annual statutory accounts by auditors on a timely basis and meet internal finance timetable.
• Assist with year-end reporting to Iberdrola, including working with local auditors, to enable group reporting timetable to be met and obtaining satisfactory tax sign off by auditors.
• Assist with ad hoc tax queries from internal businesses and give appropriate tax advice.
• Review and sign off of investment dossiers prepared by businesses prior to submission to Operating Committee. This will include ensuring that tax issues are raised and addressed and appropriately modelled.
• Assist with tax planning initiatives and transactions.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
• Candidates should have relevant tax experience and be CTA or ATT qualified or hold a professional accounting qualification.
• Strong corporation tax compliance knowledge gained through study and experience with a willingness to apply and improve that knowledge in a varied and hands on in-house environment. Capable of using corporation tax computation software.
• Assist tax director and corporate tax manager to reply to varied tax queries as required by the businesses within the UK group.
• Ability to apply tax planning initiatives.
• Ability to calculate deferred tax would be an advantage. Training will be given if required.
• Willingness to function as part of a tax team.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to work as part of a small, specialised tax and tax reporting team.
• Able to have good working relationship with internal teams that require input from tax. This includes legal team, group financial reporting, business finance teams, business planning teams and regulation.
• Able to contribute to and maintain good working relationship with HMRC – Large Business Team.
• Able to work with external auditors
