Summary


The Chief Operating Officer Directorate at NHS England is looking for a National Director of Intensive Support for Challenged Systems. This role is uniquely significant as it serves as the senior responsible leader to ensure appropriate support is provided to drive improvements in the most challenged providers or systems.

This presents a fantastic opportunity to be at the core of shaping the NHS priorities, working on a pivotal agenda. The team collaborates with colleagues across NHS England and the NHS to:
• Understand and address the underlying issues in the most challenged systems and trusts.
• Coordinate national improvement support for the most challenged systems and trusts through the Recovery Support Programme (RSP).
• Work with NHSE regional teams to appoint Improvement Directors to lead improvement plans in the most challenged systems and trusts.
• Organise and manage engagement between national executives and the most challenged NHS organisations

As the National Director, the primary focus will be on creating an integrated support offer to tackle financial and quality issues, ensuring sustainable improvement. This involves deploying the most effective improvement interventions at the right time to address the key issues in challenged organisations. This requires developing a sophisticated understanding of the challenges you will work with Regional offices to co-design support for challenged organisations.

The team offers high profile, fast-paced projects. This requires adaptability, rigor and innovation and provides exciting development opportunities for those developing their careers in the NHS, health or the public sector.

The post holder will need to:
• Demonstrate sophisticated understanding of the causes and solutions for challenges in given health systems and organisations
• An excellent ability to secure and oversee specialist input from across disciplines, including medical oversight, financial input, and operational improvement support.
• Develop and maintain excellent collaborative relationships with ALB’s, Department of Health and Social Care and regulators to influence, set and implement policy and ensure alignment of interventions to maximise improvements in patient care
• Ensure targeted support through the recovery support programme (RSP) is deployed in a timely and sensitive manner so that all SoF4 organisations and systems receive targeted support.
• A close working relationship with the Improvement Directorate drawing down expertise and capacity as agreed with regions, systems and organisations.
