Summary


For this role you will interact closely with the Senior Team in Blood Sciences in providing a high quality technical service that builds on the standards defined by the UKAS and ISO 15189:2022. You will be expected to develop and maintain close working relationships with all grades of staff both technical and medical to ensure the effective delivery of the technical service.

You will work in rotation within all sections of Biochemistry and liaise closely with the Haematology laboratory. The laboratory is well-equipped with Abbott's Alinity ci analysers, GLP Track, TOSOH G11 analysers, Uvikon XL Spectrophotometer and OsmoPro Multi-Sample Micro-Osmometer. Applicants will be supported to do the specialist portfolio.

Being flexible, self-motivated and innovative will be fundamental to your role. The ability to communicate effectively with laboratory team is essential. You will be expected to take part in 24/7 shift pattern.



You will use your knowledge and skill to ensure a robust and fully operational system within the Biochemistry department. You will look for new opportunities to get the best from the team and successfully implement changes required to ensure the system delivers the desired patient focused service.

You will be based at Frimley Park Hospital and may be required at times to travel to the other sites in the Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Network.

This opportunity is will suit a dynamic, ambitious, and enthusiastic individual to join our friendly Biomedical Scientist Team in Blood Sciences. The post is in the Biochemistry Department at Frimley Park Hospital.

The laboratory is fully accredited with UKAS and holds IBMS training status for Registration and Specialist Portfolio. We have an ongoing continuous professional development (CPD) scheme, with lectures and tutorials delivered by various subject matter experts drawn from across the Berkshire Surrey Pathology Service (BSPS) network.

We continue to invest in our services and facilities, including a £10 million upgrade to the hospital maternity unit as well as £49m major new Emergency Assessment Centre on our Wexham Park site.

We have also made significant investment in our quality improvement and digital programmes to support our vision. Our new EPR – Epic – went live in June and we are already beginning to reap the benefits of this ambitious investment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post-holder will practise as an HCPC Registered BMS in Biochemistry, participating fully in the practical work of the department. They will be responsible for the operation and provision of a high
quality technical service. The post holder will be expected to provide a high quality technical service that builds on the standards defined by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and ISO 15189:2022. They will be expected to develop and maintain close working relationships with all grades of staff, both technical and medical, to ensure the effective delivery of the technical service.

Essential criteria
• HCPC registered
• BSc in Biomedical Sciences
• Evidence of CPD

Desirable criteria
• ECDL/IT - experience of LIMS
• Experience of a diagnostic speciality in Biochemistry
