Summary


Band 6 – Senior Mental Health Practitioners

Havering was successful in gaining its first two MHSTs in January 2022 during the Wave 5/6 of the national MHST rollout. Both teams are currently in nine schools each. We pride ourselves on being a multi-cultural service with the current staff team originating from a number of diverse cultures and professional backgrounds. As a service we are innovative, motivated and passionate about working with education to support our community via our schools. We are currently undertaking a research project with Edge Hill University, some staff members are also undertaking a QI project, ensuring that what the team is delivering is effective and relevant.

This exciting role will be supporting a new, third Mental Health Support Team (MHST) in Havering, which will go live in September 2023. The third MHST will be based in and near schools and colleges in the borough, supporting children and young people.

We have 3 full-time vacancies within our Havering team.

The main responsibilities of the posts:

In line with the government’s priority to increase access and availability of mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people, the new MHSTs offer an exciting opportunity to deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people, working across both educational settings and healthcare sectors in England.

The MHST Senior Practitioner plays a key role in:


• Forming strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders
• Providing consultation to education colleagues and supporting education settings to embed a whole school approach to wellbeing
• Developing and delivering evidence-based time limited interventions to young people within education settings
• Developing and delivering training packages to education colleagues
• Evidencing the outcomes of the MHST service

Depending on experience and eligibility, you may have the opportunity to:
• Provide clinical supervision to trainee Education and Mental Health Practitioners.
• Receive specific supervisory training (see guidance below) for this role if successful candidates do not already hold this qualification.
• Please note that Successful candidates will be expected to travel to University College London part of the University of London in the first year to complete their training, but the position will be based in Havering.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham Essex

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £3,784 to a maximum of £4,822). disabilities.
