We are excited to be advertising the role of an Assistant Service Manager to work within the Paediatric Orthopaedics & Spinal services within Evelina London. The post will be 37.5 hours a week based at Evelina London Children’s Hospital and is advertised for six months, fixed term.

We are the largest dedicated children’s orthopaedic unit in the region, providing 4,500 outpatient appointments and around 500 operations a year. We are a multidisciplinary team (a team made up a range of different healthcare professionals) specialising in the treatment of bone and joint problems in children and the management of the orthopaedic aspects of neuromuscular disease, especially cerebral palsy.

Our Paediatric Spinal Surgery service is working really hard to improve patient experience and reduce waiting times for our most complex patients and the post holder would involved in contributing to these plans.



The successful applicant will play a pivotal role in the operational leadership of our Paediatric Orthopaedics & Spinal services. With line management responsibility for a team of A&C staff they will work closely with the clinical teams to ensure the delivery of key national targets in relation to the efficient delivery of high quality services. They will also be given the opportunity to take the lead on specific initiatives to modernise and transform services. We are looking for an individual with excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to work autonomously.

This role is to support the Service Manager in the delivery of a range of services. This will involve delivering against targets in a range of service areas. This will involve ensuring the provision of a high quality medical secretarial service to patients and a group of consultants and clinical teams within the department. This post could also assume the management of an outpatients department as well as managing theatre lists and associated scheduling processes. These day-to-day services will be managed in accordance with agreed objectives, targets, quality standards, controls and resource constraints. The post holder will be responsible for the management of a team or teams(s) of staff including service delivery personnel, medical secretaries and other groups of staff. The post holder may also offer a high level of support administration and organisation to a group of consultants or registrars where needed and within resource limitations.
