Summary


As Chief of Staff for the Commercial Directorate the post holder will lead and work as part of a dynamic, multi-disciplined team.

The DE team is a newly established function and the design brings together teams from across the existing structure into single teams who will provide services back to the other sub-directorates through a business partnering model, provide the cohesion between the directorate and NHSE as a whole and support external engagement out to the NHSE system for Commercial and Estates teams. This will represent a new way of working for many colleagues but offers an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of the directorate.

This approach will streamline requirements and ensure a consistent approach to various disciplines including Business Operations & Programme management. In addition, we anticipate the following benefits:

This role is a key role as part of the Commercial Directorate, reporting to the Director of Directorate Enablement and the Chief Commercial Officer in establishing this brand new function that will support the significant ambition across the Commercial Directorate.
• Ensuring clear priorities are defined & executed across the Directorate by proactively horizon scanning, providing co-ordination & oversight on operational and strategic activity
• Providing specialist advice and expert handling on key areas of work ensuring delivery of organisational priorities while creating alignment cross organisation to meet corporate and business needs
• Overseeing, co-ordinating and having ownership of corporate business returns and compliance including management of all correspondence

Key skills for this role:
• Outstanding relationship management skills, ability to build credibility & trust with senior colleagues across NHSE & externally
• Delivery skills to shape & run a number of discrete national programmes
• Strong commercial & extensive delivery experience of national scale operations & services.
• Strategic skills to develop strategies for NHSE that are aligned with stakeholders & partners.
• Intellectual ability to solve complex policy & real work practical challenges
• Enthusiasm, energy & resilience to navigate a complex, uncertain environment.
• Significant people management experience, direct and matrix

The DE function will provide the services for the overall Directorate servicing a total of c.355 staff and managing a budget of c.£278m. All services provided by the DE team will be managed as a single service delivery across the sub-functions: Commercial Delivery & Governance, Central Estates Function and Central Commercial Function.
