Summary

We are seeking a credible senior leader in quality governance, risk and assurance to join the team. Candidates will be able to demonstrate a minimum of 5 years senior management of an organisational wide Quality Governance portfolio, particularly within a provider setting. A proven track record in successfully designing, embedding and maintaining oversight of effective organisational wide governance systems, particularly in NHS provider organisations.

They will need to demonstrate effective management of NHS quality teams alongside strong influencing skills, capability building and support of key internal and external stakeholders. Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate effective NHS Board development in key aspects of quality, risk and assurance. Formal mentoring and coaching skills also desirable.

You will have strong subject matter expertise in all aspects of quality governance, risk, and assurance within Health and Care and demonstrate an improvement approach to your work. The role involves working with NHS Provider and System boards and senior leaders to deliver expert guidance, challenge and direct improvement support. This will enable providers to embed key components of the well led framework, and build effective quality governance processes to support the delivery of high quality sustainable care.

The role sits within a national regulatory body (NHS England) and as such the postholder will need to demonstrate the ability to understand and operate within this environment.

The engagement with organisations is often ‘mandated’ and as such the postholder needs to be able to command the confidence and trust. The candidate will need to build effective working relationships in sometimes challenging environments, demonstrating strong rigour and integrity in their dealings with staff, leaders and key stakeholders.

In April 2023, NHS England, NHS Digital, and Health Education England merged to create a new, single organisation to lead the NHS in England. This new NHS England is designed to create a simpler, smaller, high performing, organisation that leads the NHS more effectively and is a better place to work. Speaking with one voice to the service.
The new NHS England board have set out the top-level purpose for the new organisation to lead the NHS in England to deliver high-quality services for all, which will inform the detailed design work and we will achieve this purpose by:
Enabling local systems and providers to improve the health of their people and patients and reduce health inequalities.
Making the NHS a great place to work, where our people can make a difference and achieve their potential.
Working collaboratively to ensure our healthcare workforce has the right knowledge, skills, values and behaviours to deliver accessible, compassionate care
Optimising the use of digital technology, research, and innovation
Delivering value for money.

Candidates do not need to have a clinical background/professional registration but need to be able to demonstrate extensive subject matter expertise, a clear understanding of the health and care landscape and operate credibly in this environment.

As this is a national role, you will be required to travel to NHS provider organisations across England. Aspects of the work will include site visits and at points may include on site working for 2-3 days for several weeks at a time.
