Summary

**Carer / Support Worker, Cambridge, CB22 **
**Starting at £12ph (negotiable dependent on skills and experience).**

About me:
I am a bright and sociable 7 yr old girl, who needs 1-1 support at all times, due to my breathing difficulties. I have a tracheostomy and a ventilator to help me breathe, and I also suffer with some paralysis on my right side. I can walk independently but I need some support to get around with all my equipment, and help with some physical tasks. I love role play, fashion, and dinosaurs. I live with my mum, dad and big sister, and I also have carers that look after me at night. I would really like to be able to attend clubs and activities outside of school with some support.

Hours and rate of Pay:

4 hrs per week (flexible, to be agreed at interview). Evenings, weekends and school holidays. No commitment required to fulfil regular hours. Starting at £12ph (negotiable dependent on skills and experience). Statutory entitlement to annual leave is 5.6 weeks (pro-rata). Based on 4hrs per week this would be 23 hours annual leave. The role requires an enhanced DBS check which can be arranged. Candidates must be willing to cover the cost of this themselves.

Job description

Respite care initially in the home with a view to regular weekly support to attend activities in the community. Main duties will involve tracheostomy care, and maintaining a safe airway at all times so you must have an awareness of the risk around ventilation needs. Some personal care may be required, such as help with dressing. Help to mobilise and move equipment. Full training will be provided with ongoing support from parents and the community nursing team and you will not be left until fully confident. Competency skills will be reviewed annually.

Person Specification:

A fun and caring attitude is essential along with a professional approach to working in someones home. Good communication skills. Previous tracheostomy experience is desirable but not essential. You must be willing to undertake some important medical training. This usually takes approx five 1hr training sessions (virtually or in the home), getting to know the childs needs and one visit to Addenbrookes for Basic Life Support training. Anyone who has already completed this training would be a significant bonus.
