About the service user

I am middle aged woman with very severe ME/CFS and virtually bedbound. need help with personal care, meals prepared and domestic tasks. It is important for me to have continuity of regular and reliable support workers who get to know my needs and my routine. I particularly like fresh good quality food, and this aids my health.


Hours and rate of Pay£20 per hourTuesday and Friday mornings - 1.5 hours, 10.30 - 12 or 11 - 12.30 or 11.30 - 1 Evening call every night Mondays and Thursdays - 1 hour, 6-7pmTues, Wed, Fri, Saturday, Sunday 1 and 1/4 hours, 5.45 - 7pm


What you would be doing

Support with personal care in bed or when well enough support with a shower, in a dignified manner. Meal preparation and cooking. Food cut up for me. On very severe days you will help me eat. Support with everyday chores, laundry, maintaining the domestic environment to the required standard, posting mail, and collecting medication from the chemist. Although not relevant at present, when my health improves, I will need support with social and recreational outings and to accompany me on medical appointments using a wheelchair. Establish a close working relationship on a one-to-one basis and understand the need to minimise how much talking I have to do. To avoid putting me under any stress. To speak softly quietly and to be always very calm, never encouraging me to talk or do more .On days when I am very ill to take your own initiative based on what you know of my preferences and routine. Discuss and resolve problems as they arise or when I am well enough to be able to discuss them. Maintain daily written records and undertake any duties which may be reasonably allocated and fall within the scope and responsibility of the job. Needs may vary on a daily basis; therefore hours, duties and tasks may alter and inform the care plan. To undertake any training that is required and read literature within work time that will be supplied on M.E .


The person I would like

You must be very calm. You must be at all times able to leave stress outside my home, be kind gentle and respectful, soft spoken and speak and move slowly and calmly as this is a neurological illness .Be understanding supportive and efficient. Will wear gloves for personal care but never to be worn in the kitchen due to intolerances. Some experience of care/support work. No knowledge of M.E. necessary but an interest and willingness to learn will be required. You must like cats as I have two, and respect that this is their home as well as mine. You should have a genuine interest in the provision of high-quality care and hygiene, be able to work flexible hours and be a good communicator and also possess the motivation to develop trust and understanding within the role. In return you will have the opportunity to practice your skills, keep up to date with professional development as training will be provided. Be hardworking, reliable, committed, honest, and trustworthy. Two references will be requested and followed up.
