We have an exciting opportunity within BHRUT Hospitals for a Band 6 Nurse to join our existing highly motivated team on Cornflower B ward. The ward is based at our Queens hospital site, Romford, however there will be an opportunity to rotate in the division if you desire.

Our Clinical care group is currently going through a process of change to ensure we meet the on-going needs of the adult care and to provide an excellent standard of care every time. This is an ideal opportunity for you to bring your experience and vision to help us to deliver these changes. We are looking for an enthusiastic Nurse with a passion for delivering high quality care in partnership with patients and their relatives putting the patients at the centre of our PRIDE values. Ideally, this person will have a special interest in Renal and General medical care as well as Medicines Management, End of life Care, and Dementia and will be willing to undertake lead nurse responsibility for this area of nursing and maintaining high standard of care.

In addition to the usual ward duties, the appointed Band 6 nurse will be released from duty to participate in trust wide learning opportunities, and to complete ward-based audits and training sessions for staff. You will need to have a good understanding of safe medicines management, BHRUT's improvement plans in relation to medicines management, dementia strategy and CQC standards to ensure safe delivery of care.

To provide support to the Senior Sister in effectively leading and managing the ward, participating in all ward activities as an effective team member, supporting the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse taking the responsibility for the leadership of a team of staff.

To assess care needs, and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. To teach and supervise qualified and unqualified staff, and act as a role model to junior staff, undertaking performance management is required.

To take responsibility and accountability for a group of patients and the whole ward for the duration of the shift, and to provide clinical care to patients with high quality care, and the patient experience, as focus.

To provide holistic nursing care to patients within the unit, utilising all resources to provide excellence in practice.

To develop personally & professionally as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team and undertake appraisal annually.

To provide teaching and mentorship to junior colleagues.

To contribute to the maintenance of a safe environment.

Reports any potential / actual problems to line manager and/or Matron when appropriate.

We provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. Most of our 7,800 permanent staff live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals and we operate from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London – more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Community Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic.

We’re pleased to be leading the way in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital is one of eight to be accredited as part of a national scheme; the Care Quality Commission has raised the ratings for urgent and emergency care at Queen’s and King George hospitals; and data released by NHS England showed that the Trust was the most improved in 2023 for reducing waits for emergency care.

We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.
