Hours: part time and full time hours available
Job purpose:We are looking for a caring and empathetic person to start in role as a personal assistant (PA) for a 33 year old gentleman with a hypoxic brain injury. Brain injury has resulted in Richard experiencing communication difficulties and requirement for support with all personal care, use of PEG for feeding and medication and use of wheel chair. Richard has grown up in Leeds, worked across many different areas but most recently as a garden landscaper which remains a key passion alongside music, love of comedy, nature and reading.Richard does live within his family home with both parents and younger brother so being comfortable around the family, whilst also respecting our need for family time are great skills to possess.
We are looking for a part time role to cover mostly weekends and the occasional cover during the week if available. Flexibility in shifts would be appreciated to support with covering annual leave and sickness.
Main duties
Personal care duties:• Support with all personal cares such as showering, shaving, brushing teeth, skin care, dressing• Peg feeding Including medication• Catheter care• Seizure monitoring• Performing stretchesSocial duties:• Support to engage with hobbies such as gardening, listening to music or attending gigs, reading to Richard• Support with attending community activities• Support with attending appointments• Support with seeing friends and familyDomestic duties:• support with personal shopping• cooking and serving occasional taster meals• cleaning, changing linen,• laundryThese duties may vary from day to day.Key values that we look for in our personal assistants:• reliability and trust• care and compassion• empathy; treat me like you’d want your family to be treated• A willingness to learnExperience:Experience of working in care, epilepsy and/or brain injury is preferred but not essential as full training will be offered, for us it’s more important to recruit someone who’s the right type of person.Previous personal assistance experience preferred but not a requirement as full training will be provided prior to starting the role.Full driving license preferredIf you are patient, compassionate, good humoured and are great with people then we would love to hear from you.
