Summary
This specialist pharmacist role includes: Supporting the clinical trials activities undertaken by the department, maintaining knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and other statutory & professional standards. Working closely with the lead pharmacist clinical trials & lead pharmacy technician(s) (clinical trials) to assess, set up, run, monitor and close down clinical trials. Reviewing protocols for pharmacy capability and capacity and communication of outcome to R&D Produce trial specific clinical trial guidelines. Assist in the production and review of SOPs relating to clinical trials For cancer trials liaise with the lead technician electronic prescribing to set-up and review prescriptions as needed and the aseptic team to set up worksheets for trial medication preparation. Provide help and advice to other members of the pharmacy team and wider research team on dealing with clinical trials. Assisting with evaluating, developing and leading a specialist clinical trials pharmacy service and meeting the pharmaceutical care needs for patients participating in research at the Trust Working with the lead pharmacist, lead technician(s) and R&D to aid in delivering changes to practice in line with legislation, strategy and priority. Support the lead technician clinical trials in deputising for the lead pharmacist clinical trials. Assist in ensuring compliance with Trust policies, GCP and regulatory and legal requirements relating to the prescribing, administration, storage and disposal of IMPs Undertake risk assessments, as required, to meet medicines legislation and Trust policies, identify and manage the risks associated with the use of clinical trial medicines. Enter pharmacy activities involved in the provision of clinical trials services to commercial sponsors on Edge to ensure the department receives appropriate remuneration. Working with the investigator, research staff and external Clinical Research Associates (CRAs) to manage feasibility, set-up, initiation, dispensing, maintenance, close-down and archiving of trials including ordering, receipt, storage, return or destruction of clinical trial medication. Screening and checking clinical trial prescriptions.
