Support is required to enable a 5-year-old boy who has a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to access age-appropriate leisure activities in the local community.
Time could also be used in the family home, to supervise and support child in sensory based activities and playing outside in the garden.
Experience is preferred but not essential. Driver preferred with business use insurance
Hours of work:8 hrs a week during all school holidays (13 weeks).
Rate of Pay: £13.09
Can be flexible with hours/days, to be discussed at interview
Main Duties: 1-1 support required to access age-appropriate activities in and around the local community. He particularly enjoys swimming, soft play, parks and attending local SEN activity groups.
You will be required to anticipate the child’s needs, as he is nonverbal in communication, however, can communicate some basic wants via PEC’s (picture exchange communication system) and leading by the hand.
Provide full assistance with personal care such as toileting as child not yet toilet trained. Constant 1-1 supervision due to a severe lack of danger awareness. Assist the child to build relationships with peers within his wider community.
Personal specification:
- Experience in health & social care desirable.
- Have a genuine interest in working with children with complex needs.
- Have a positive understanding towards children with disabilities.
- Ability to both take instructions and use own initiative.
- Respect confidentiality
- Punctual, honest, reliable with a caring nature as the child cannot be left unsupervised.
