Seaton Delaval

To provide support for a 18-year-old who has an Undiagnosed condition which represents as cerebral palsy, effecting all four limbs. As a result of this condition this young person uses an electric wheelchair, has communication difficulties (uses mixture of gestures, some words and communication aid, needs support in all areas of care.We are currently looking to recruit an experienced Support Worker to provide support for a 18 year old. All transfers are 2:1 and the parents will be the second person initially. When I go out and about, I will mostly only need one enabler for support. I would like to get out and about in the community, so a driver is essential. My vehicle is a Volkswagen Caddy max, manual transmission. The places I would like to visit are Beamish, Metrocentre and I like Arcades so Whitley Bay would be a good place to go now and then. I enjoy visiting National Trust sites and eating out.I can understand clear communication and once you get to know me you will be able to understand what I want/need. I also use a communication aid.I need support in the mornings, this would be at 7:15am – 8:30am x3 mornings. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at moment but may change in September depending on college. My taxi comes at about 8:17am but just in case of any delays I think it’s best to leave at 8:30am

Hours: 13.45 hours per weekAdditional 6 hrs per week during college holidaysMAIN DUTIES· Assist with all personal care needs, including bathing, washing, toileting and mealtimes.· You will be required to anticipate the young person’s needs, as they have limited verbal communication.· Provide social stimulation and progressive levels of activity. · Moving and handling is required, full training will be provided.· Support with posture.
You must be able to drive but having your own car is not essential so long as you can get to my home. However, you must have business insurance to drive my vehicle. Rate of pay:£13.09 per hour. Holidays are 5.6 weeks per year, pro-rataPerson SpecificationSuccessful applicant must:· Have at least 12 months experience working with young people who have disabilities · Have a genuine interest in working with young people who have complex needs· Have a high degree of initiative· Be flexible· Have a happy, positive and caring nature.· Respect confidentiality.· You must be a non-smoker· Being fully vaccinated would be an advantage as I do have a lowered immune system.An Enhanced DBS Check is required, cost to be met by employer.
