Job Title: Personal Assistant for fun loving active young man.
Hours: 6 per week

Rate of Pay: £11.30

To support 8 year old male child who has severe autism with complex communication needs, intimate personal care needs as he is incontinent and wears nappy pads, and would require encouragement with feeding.

My son requires 1:1 support to access social activities within the community, to enable him to develop social and communication skills which may lead to increased independence in the future. He can sometimes struggle to manage his emotions and will occasionally have an emotional outburst if he becomes frustrated. My son requires constant supervision to prevent him from running off as he has very limited sense of danger and is at risk of absconding. My son loves to go for long walks, he enjoys visiting the parks, trampolining, Tropical World, swimming, activity centres and other play places, he loves music and singing. He also likes to travel by bus.

The PA will support my son for 2 x 3 hour sessions on a weekend or after school to be discussed. The support will give me some time to play with my other children, or complete household tasks as I have a younger daughter age 4 and an older son age 9 years who also has complex health and special educational needs. The PA will give my son increased opportunities to spend time in the community and practice the skills he is currently learning in school. It would be helpful but is not essential for the PA to has autism specific training, and skills using PECS and/or Makaton.

MY PA will work with me to agree the tasks necessary to support my child, and suitable places to visit within the community. They will be compassionate, caring, reliable, conscientious, have a good sense of humour and be flexible around times.

General tasks include:

Provide 1:1 support when out in the community.

Support to develop awareness of safety when out in the community such as when crossing the road.

Support to further develop communication using Makaton and PECS

Support with intimate personal care, help with changing continence pad/nappy.

Support to access leisure activities within the community.

Support to access fun child friendly activities within the community.

Qualities:

Driving license and car with appropriate insurance is beneficial but not essential.

Patient, caring, and kind.

Able to support with behaviours which challenge.

Some flexibility around timings of sessions would be preferrable.
