Are you an experienced Seafood Buyer with strong market knowledge, established supplier relationships, and a passion for sourcing high-quality products?

We are seeking a commercially minded Seafood Buyer to join a growing and successful food business, taking responsibility for the procurement of fresh fish and seafood products. This is a key position within the commercial team, offering the opportunity to influence purchasing strategy, supplier performance, product availability, and overall business profitability.

Reporting directly to the Commercial Director, you will also provide leadership and support to a small buying team, ensuring effective purchasing practices and strong supplier partnerships across the category.

This is a fast-paced, hands-on role where your market expertise and commercial judgement will have a direct impact on product quality, customer satisfaction, margin performance, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the sourcing and procurement of fresh fish and seafood products from UK and international suppliers.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with processors, importers, wholesalers, markets, and seafood suppliers.
Negotiate pricing, supply agreements, and commercial terms to maximise value and protect margins.
Monitor market trends, seasonal availability, pricing fluctuations, and supply chain risks to make informed buying decisions.
Identify alternative sourcing opportunities and product substitutions when required.
Work closely with sales, production, and operations teams to ensure stock availability while minimising waste and maintaining service levels.
Collaborate with technical and quality teams to ensure compliance with specifications, traceability requirements, labelling standards, and responsible sourcing commitments.
Analyse purchasing data and market information to support forecasting, budgeting, and commercial decision-making.
Maintain accurate supplier, pricing, stock, and performance records within internal systems.
Support and develop members of the buying team, promoting best practice and continuous improvement.

About You
Proven experience purchasing fresh fish and seafood products within a commercial environment.
Strong industry network and established supplier relationships.
Previous experience leading, mentoring, or managing team members.
Excellent negotiation and supplier management skills.
Strong understanding of margin management, cost control, stock management, and waste reduction.
Commercially astute with the ability to react quickly to changing market conditions.
Comfortable working in a fast-moving fresh food environment.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Confident presenting information and recommendations to senior management.
