Summary
KS2 Teaching Assistant – 1:1 SEND Support
Location: St Helens, Merseyside
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term
Start Date: September 2026
About the Role
We are currently recruiting for multiple KS2 Teaching Assistants to work within a range of primary schools across St Helens.
These positions involve providing dedicated 1:1 support to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and are available on a full-time, long-term basis from September.
This is an excellent opportunity for experienced Teaching Assistants who have worked within Key Stage 2 and are confident supporting pupils both academically and emotionally to help them achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
Provide tailored 1:1 support for pupils with additional needs in KS2.
Support pupils with their learning, engagement, social development, and emotional wellbeing.
Implement strategies outlined in EHCPs and individual support plans.
Work closely with class teachers, SENDCOs, and external professionals to meet pupils' needs.
Assist pupils in accessing the KS2 curriculum and developing independence.
Support literacy and numeracy interventions where required.
Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment.
Requirements
Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a UK primary school.
Recent experience supporting children within Key Stage 2.
Experience working with children with SEND, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, and learning difficulties.
Knowledge of the KS2 curriculum and intervention strategies.
Experience supporting pupils in preparation for SATs is highly desirable.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
A patient, resilient, and nurturing approach.
Essential Requirements
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
Right to work in the UK.
Ability to provide references covering relevant education or childcare experience.
