The Opportunity
As a Teaching and Learning Coach (Immersive Learning), you will play a key role in shaping a culture of everyday excellence, supporting staff to deliver exceptional learning experiences for all students. You will lead on the implementation of immersive and simulation-based learning aligned to the College’s digital strategy, enhancing curriculum delivery through innovative, industry-relevant, and experiential approaches.
Working collaboratively with curriculum managers and colleagues, you will contribute to the strategic development of Teaching, Learning and Assessment across the College. You will design and deliver impactful immersive development activities, provide personalised coaching, and lead initiatives that improve the quality of teaching across all curriculum areas.
Within a supportive and forward-thinking team, you will help to create effective professional development pathways, develop innovative resources, and contribute to whole-college digital improvement activity. You will also support the induction and ongoing development of teaching staff, embedding strong professional habits, reflective practice, and high standards from the outset. Ultimately, you will act as a key influencer in shaping the teaching culture at Barnsley College, bringing research-informed approaches and a commitment to helping every teacher deliver their best for students.
About You
You will be an enthusiastic and forward-thinking educator with a strong understanding of what exceptional teaching and learning looks like. You will bring credible experience of delivering innovative and impactful teaching within the FE sector, alongside a proven ability to support colleagues in improving their practice.
You will have experience of designing and delivering effective staff development and will be confident in coaching and mentoring colleagues towards meaningful improvement. You will be skilled in observing Teaching, Learning and Assessment, making accurate judgements, and using evidence to drive high-quality practice.
As a digitally confident practitioner, you will have a strong interest in immersive learning and emerging technologies, including experience of using virtual reality, simulation, and other innovative digital tools. You will be able to translate these technologies into practical, scalable classroom approaches that are purposeful, inclusive, and aligned with curriculum intent.
You will understand how to design engaging, real-world learning experiences that go beyond novelty and support employability, ensuring a clear impact on student outcomes. You will also bring knowledge of key sector frameworks such as the Ofsted Framework, Apprenticeships standards, and JISC/ETF technology standards, enabling you to align practice with wider expectations.
Personally, you will be positive, adaptable, and solution-focused, with the ability to inspire confidence in others. You will communicate clearly, build strong professional relationships, and contribute to a collaborative, ambitious, and innovative team environment. Above all, you will be committed to supporting staff to deliver an outstanding learning experience for every student.
Required Skills Qualifications and Experience
• Teaching qualification or willingness to work towards PGCE Level 5 if not already held
• Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area or significant sector experience
• GCSE Maths and English or equivalent Level 2 qualification
• Evidence of exceptional and innovative teaching practice within FE
• Effective coaching and mentoring skills to support improvement in teaching practice
• Experience delivering innovative and well received staff development training
• Experience undertaking observations of Teaching Learning and Assessment making accurate judgements and using outcomes to drive improvement
• Knowledge of evidence based and research informed teaching and learning approaches
• Experience designing and delivering immersive and VR based learning experiences that develop employability skills and create meaningful real world learning impact
