Luma Education Recruitment is working in partnership with a specialist SEMH and SEND provision in Loughborough to recruit a passionate and dedicated Secondary English Teacher. This is a rewarding opportunity to support young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and additional special educational needs, helping them develop both academically and personally through engaging and meaningful English lessons.
The successful candidate will inspire and motivate pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4, delivering a broad and accessible English curriculum tailored to individual learning needs and EHCP outcomes. You will play a vital role in fostering confidence, resilience, literacy skills, and positive engagement with education.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver engaging English lessons that meet the diverse needs of pupils with SEMH and SEND
Differentiate learning to support varying academic abilities and individual EHCP outcomes
Create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment that promotes positive behaviour and engagement
Support pupils in developing literacy, communication, and functional English skills
Monitor, assess, and record pupil progress, adapting teaching strategies where necessary
Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, pastoral staff, therapists, families, and external professionals
Contribute to EHCP reviews, annual reviews, and wider school activities
Promote emotional wellbeing, resilience, independence, and positive outcomes for all learners
Requirements:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification
Experience teaching English at Secondary level (KS3 and KS4)
Experience working with pupils with SEMH needs, SEND, or within alternative provision environments is highly desirable
Strong understanding of differentiated teaching and inclusive classroom practice
Excellent behaviour management and relationship-building skills
A patient, resilient, and nurturing approach
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
Enhanced DBS required prior to starting
