SENCO (Full-Time, Maternity Cover – up to 18 months)
Location: Bournemouth Centre

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated SENCO to join our friendly team. The successful candidate will lead and coordinate SEND provision, ensuring learners receive the support they need to achieve positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
Lead the development and implementation of SWRAC’s SEND strategy and policy.
Assess learners with SEND, identify needs, monitor progress and coordinate interventions.
Liaise with external professionals, including psychologists, therapists, health and social care providers.
Work closely with tutors, managers, ELSAs, parents and external agencies to develop and review individual support plans.
Lead Team Around the Learner meetings and annual reviews.
Provide guidance, training and support to tutors and Learning Support Assistants.
Support the development of inclusive teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies.
Maintain accurate learner records and analyse SEND-related data to inform practice.
Keep staff updated on SEND legislation, policy and best practice.
Conduct provision audits and contribute to the SEND Action Plan.
Liaise with the Engagement Team to ensure support needs can be met before enrolment.
Prepare statutory advice for EHCP assessments and other professional reports.
Undertake other duties appropriate to the role.
Essential Qualifications
NASENCO qualification.
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Teaching qualification at Level 5 or above.
English and Maths at Level 2 (or equivalent).
Skills and Competencies

Ability to build positive relationships with learners, families, staff and external agencies.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to secure and coordinate support from internal and external services.

Commitment to ongoing professional development and SEND best practice.
Knowledge and Experience
Secure knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
Understanding of effective teaching, assessment and curriculum strategies for diverse learners.
Knowledge of behaviour management and inclusive learning environments.
Minimum three years’ teaching experience, ideally within post-16 education.
Experience of monitoring and evaluating teaching and learning.
