Contract: Full-Time | Long-Term
Start Date: ASAP
We are working in partnership with a specialist SEMH provision in Salford to recruit a dedicated, resilient, and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis.
This specialist setting supports pupils aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many students require consistent guidance, structure, and encouragement to engage successfully with their education. The school places a strong emphasis on pastoral care and relationship-based support, creating a positive environment where young people can develop confidence, resilience, and independence.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting vulnerable young people and is looking to build a rewarding career within SEN and SEMH education.
As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students both academically and emotionally throughout the school day. Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff, you will help create a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs
- Assist teachers in delivering tailored and accessible learning activities
- Implement behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques
- Encourage pupil engagement, participation, and positive outcomes
- Support students both within the classroom and during wider school activities
- Build positive, trusting relationships that promote confidence and emotional wellbeing
- Contribute to maintaining a calm, consistent, and supportive learning environment
We are looking for candidates who:
- Have experience working within SEMH, PRU, alternative provision, youth work, care, or similar settings
- Are calm, confident, and consistent in their approach
- Can build positive relationships with young people who may be disengaged from education
- Demonstrate resilience, patience, and strong communication skills
- Have a genuine passion for supporting children and young people to achieve their potential
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or are willing to obtain one
- A supportive and experienced leadership team
- Comprehensive induction and ongoing professional development
- Clear behaviour systems and structured support processes
- A collaborative and welcoming staff culture
- Opportunities for career progression and potential permanent employment
- The chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people every day
- Dedicated support from an experienced education consultant
- Access to a wide range of CPD and specialist training opportunities
- Competitive weekly PAYE pay
- Flexible and long-term career opportunities across the education sector
- Free Child Protection and Prevent Duty training for registered candidates
