Role Overview
We are looking for a Pastoral Teaching Assistant to support pupils with additional needs and challenging behaviour. The role involves working closely with teachers to support learning, behaviour, and wellbeing, both in and out of the classroom. You will help create a safe, caring, and supportive environment for pupils.
About the Role
You will work with pupils from KS1 to KS5, building positive relationships and helping them manage their emotions and behaviour. The setting focuses on clear boundaries, nurturing support, and restorative approaches to behaviour. You may also work in calm or nurturing spaces and support pupils using sensory or practical activities.
Key Responsibilities
Support pupils with learning in the classroom, during one-to-one sessions, outreach, home tuition, and outdoor activities
Help prepare learning materials and support lesson delivery, with a focus on behaviour support
Provide pastoral care and emotional support to pupils
Complete daily reports on pupil progress and any barriers to learning
Use trauma-informed approaches to help pupils feel safe and supported
Work closely with colleagues, parents/carers, and external professionals
Support positive behaviour and help pupils re-engage with learning
Requirements
A caring and committed approach to supporting pupils with SEND
At least 2 years’ experience working in a SEND or similar setting
Experience supporting pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs
A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable
