About us
HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is an agency of the Ministry of Justice and is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales. Our roles support our service users and colleagues within HMCTS, where people and businesses access potentially life-changing justice.
The Court of Protection (COP) is a specialist court for England and Wales that deals with decision making for adults (and in some cases children) who may lack capacity to make decisions themselves. The bulk of the work relates to decisions about property and financial affairs, but we also deal with serious decisions about healthcare and personal welfare, including whether someone can be deprived of their liberty under the Mental Capacity Act. The central registry of the court is in London, First Avenue House, with regional hubs and hearing centres across England and Wales.
Your role
Manage and plan the workload of a team which provides administrative support and excellent customer service to all stakeholders, judiciary, mediators, and management. Lead and manage a team of staff, ensuring that its members are organised, and fully skilled to meet their work objectives using Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other continuous improvement tools. To assist in the delivery of performance against targets.
Your skills and experience
• Ability to motivate and support your team to deliver excellent customer service and achieve effective performance.
• Experience of working in an administrative role in a customer focussed environment
• Proficient with IT and Microsoft Software packages
• Excellent communication and organisational skills

Ways of working
Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week. There is an expectation that you can be flexible with your working hours to accommodate the needs of the business.
HMCTS welcomes part-time, flexible, and job-sharing working patterns, where they meet the demands of the role and business needs and are agreed prior to appointment. All applications for part-time, flexible, and job-sharing working patterns will be considered in accordance with the MoJ’s Flexible Working policy. Part time employees will need to work at least 30 hours throughout the week.
Hybrid working is not available for these roles; successful candidates will be fully office based.
Skilled Worker Visa
This role is not eligible for new Skilled Worker visas in accordance with the current immigration rules.
 From 22 July 2025, the Government introduced changes to the Skilled Worker visa route.
