A full-time Medical Director role combining senior clinical leadership with Consultant Psychiatrist responsibilities within an inpatient mental health service for adults and young people.
Overview
Full-time, 37.5 hours per week. Onsite working. Fully remote working is not available.
You must hold GMC registration, be on the Specialist Register, and meet Section 12(2) and Approved Clinician requirements. Right to Work in the UK is required.
This role combines a substantive Consultant Psychiatrist caseload with dedicated Medical Director responsibilities, contributing to clinical leadership, governance, and service development.
What you’ll do
Hold Responsible Clinician duties for a defined inpatient caseload
Lead the ward multidisciplinary team and supervise junior medical staff
Manage clinical caseload and contribute to patient care planning
Provide senior medical leadership across the site
Lead recruitment, appraisal, and oversight of medical staff
Oversee clinical governance, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance
Support preparation for inspections and maintain standards of care
Contribute to strategic planning, service development, and performance improvement
Chair or contribute to governance and clinical meetings
Support financial oversight and medical workforce planning
What you’ll need
GMC registration with Specialist Register status
MRCPsych (or equivalent)
Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician status
Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent
Significant senior clinical experience in psychiatry
Experience in clinical leadership or medical management
Strong understanding of governance, quality improvement, and regulatory frameworks
Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage performance
Strong communication, influencing, and decision-making skills
Commercial awareness within a healthcare setting
Right to Work in the UK
