Summary
The
The post will be based within the multidisciplinary Renal department, where psychology is highly valued. You will provide individual inpatient and outpatient work, case consultation, and represent psychology in MDT meetings. You will contribute to developing a specialist clinical health psychology service for kidney conditions and have opportunity to shape practice within a large medical team. This role also offers excellent opportunity to bring new ideas to the department, including through multidisciplinary and quality improvement projects. Service-user involvement is encouraged. Renal psychology has also helped develop a peer support programme for patients, which you would be encouraged to join.
You will have regular supervision and opportunity for joint work with an experienced clinical psychologist who has been in the renal department for years and currently works 2 days a week. There are also exciting developments in the broader renal service in the trust, with opportunities for more integration and new ways of working for psychology. There are opportunities to work flexibly and creatively, drawing on a range of therapeutic models and theories, including CBT, ACT and CFT. You would share office space with psychology colleagues from Haematology, offering plenty of opportunities for sharing innovations and informal support.

To provide specialist psychological assessments of renal patients by interpreting and integrating complex data from psychometric tests, self-report measures, observations, and interviews with clients, families, and carers
.
To formulate and implement evidence-based psychological treatment plans for managing complex difficulties, utilizing appropriate conceptual frameworks across all renal care settings.
To be responsible for implementing range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, and groups. This involves synthesizing multiple explanatory models and refining formulations to meet evolving clinical needs.
To evaluate and decide upon treatment options by considering theoretical models and complex factors, including chronic illness, historical contexts, and developmental processes affecting the individual or group.
To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment, and discharge of renal clients managed via psychologically based care plans.
To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance, and consultation to other professionals involved in the client’s care to support holistic management.
To ensure the Renal multidisciplinary team has access to a psychologically based framework for understanding clients’ difficulties through consultation, clinical advice, and the dissemination of research and theory.

Applications for the post will be particularly welcomed from candidates with experience of working in Clinical Health Psychology settings, However, experienced candidates who are able to demonstrate relevant skills developed in other specialties and who are keen to develop expertise in clinical health settings would also be considered. Our priority is to appoint the right person to the role, and so we are offering this as a Band 7 or 8a dependent on experience. Days of work can be discussed but will need to include either a Thursday or a Friday.
