Summary

Pastoral Assistant
Care First: Further Education - Great Barr Campus
Salary: £22,160.62 per annum (not pro rata)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week | Monday to Friday | 8.30am – 4.30pm
Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only

We are seeking a compassionate Pastoral Assistant to support learners with SEND, SEMH, autism, and associated needs. The role involves providing direct support during the school day, assisting with behaviour and wellbeing strategies, and promoting a positive, inclusive environment that ensures safeguarding and helps learners engage fully in their learning and personal development.

Your role will include:

Provide direct pastoral support to learners, including those in crisis or requiring additional care, and assist with individual behaviour and support plans.
Promote positive behaviour strategies and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.
Support learners during breaks, lunchtimes, and transitions to encourage engagement and wellbeing.
Collaborate with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and senior leaders to ensure consistent support for learners.
Liaise with parents/carers to support learners’ personal, social, and emotional development.
Monitor, track, and record behaviour trends, maintaining accurate records and contributing to reviews and planning.
Support enrichment activities, community projects, and on-site work experience opportunities for learners.
Assist in delivering sessions on pastoral care, wellbeing, and inclusion strategies.
Ensure all actions comply with safeguarding, equality, and college policies, participating in training and team meetings.
Undertake additional duties as directed by the Pastoral and Behaviour Lead, Deputy Campus Lead, or Campus Lead, reflecting professional standards.
We are looking for someone who:

Has a high standard of literacy and numeracy, with willingness to undertake relevant training including safeguarding and behaviour management.
Experience working in educational settings with learners facing social, emotional, and behavioural challenges; experience in implementing behaviour strategies desirable.
Understanding of SEND and its impact on behaviour, with ability to tailor support to individual learner needs.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with excellent communication, interpersonal, and basic IT skills.
Empathetic, solution-focused, resilient, adaptable, committed to inclusion, and maintaining high expectations for learners and self.
Calm and effective under pressure, demonstrating patience, kindness, and a learner-centred approach.
Enhanced DBS clearance, with driving licence and access to a car desirable.
