Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen for aMaternity Support Workerto join our team at Bedford Hospital.

This role involves working across both community and hospital settings, supporting midwifery staff in delivering high‑quality care to women, their babies, and their families.

It is a varied and rewarding position, offering the chance to be part of a hardworking, close‑knit team committed to providing individualised care tailored to the needs of each woman and her baby, while supporting the midwife in their role.


This valued role requires a broader range of skills than those of aBand 2 Maternity Care Assistant.

You will focus on key aspects of maternity care that enhance the experience of women and their families.

You will work alongside — and under the guidance of — practitioners from across the multidisciplinary team, including midwives, obstetricians, ultrasonographers, physiotherapists, and advanced nurse practitioners.

To actively participate in the recognition and prevention of maternal illness and respond effectively in an emergency.

To assist mothers with postnatal exercises.

To arrange and process microbiological specimens.

To obtain maternal capillary blood sample for glucose analysis, in line with Trust policy and guidelines.

To independent undertaking venepuncture in line with national standards and local policy.
