Job Description:
The primary purpose of this position is to operate Buses capable of carrying 16 or more passengers on public roads (or equivalent) in a full range of traffic conditions and at highway speeds.
You will operate one or more types of gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles typically having a maximum authorized Mass (MAM) of less than 3,500 kg for a single vehicle and less than 7,000 kg for a vehicle with a trailer. Drives over public roads (or equivalent) in a full range of traffic conditions and at highway speeds to transport cargo.
You will operate one or more types of passenger vehicles to facilitate loading and unloading duties and perform operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing of vehicles, and performing inspection checklists to ensure safe and proper operation. You will utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment, maintaining records and documenting required action.
Qualifications and Key skills:
An appropriate, valid UK Category ‘D’ driver’s license + Drivers CPC is required, plus experience in the key skills listed.
• Knowledge of and skill in operating gasoline, diesel, or electric powered buses and large passenger vehicles designed to transport 16 or more passengers.
• Knowledge of cargo handling and hauling and techniques for safeguarding and protecting cargo.
• Knowledge of traffic and safety regulations, practices, and procedures pertaining to motor vehicle operation; and passenger safety rules including those regarding the use of seatbelts.
• Ability to judge road/traffic conditions and read maps to determine the shortest and safest route.
• Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. related to motor vehicle operation and preventive maintenance.
• Ability to meet pickup and delivery deadlines and schedules.
Conditions of employment
• You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations. This position is coded as mission essential.
• You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training.
• You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
• Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs. Shift work and working at the weekend may be required. Overtime may be required and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade.
• You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth. A pre-employment physical is required.
• You may be subject to random testing for drug use.
• You will be required to operate fork-lifts to facilitate cargo loading/unloading.
