Summary

Murray Recruitment are recruiting a Purchasing & Product Sourcing Specialist for our client based in Lanarkshire.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly analytical and commercially minded professional with advanced Excel and data analysis skills to join a fast-growing business. Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, the successful candidate will play a key role in analysing sales performance across more than 8,000 product lines, providing insight-driven recommendations on stock planning, purchasing strategies, and future product ranges to support continued business growth.

Role Overview

Working within a fast-growing online retail business supplying thousands of customers across the UK, this role combines purchasing, commercial analysis, and strategic product planning. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating sales performance across an extensive product portfolio, identifying trends, forecasting future demand, and making informed recommendations on product purchasing and range development.

This is a highly data-driven role requiring exceptional Excel skills and the ability to interpret large volumes of information to influence purchasing decisions. The successful candidate will work closely with suppliers, internal stakeholders, and senior management to ensure stock availability, maximise profitability, and support long-term commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Managing the end-to-end purchasing process across an extensive product portfolio.
Analysing sales performance across more than 8,000 product lines to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
Producing detailed reports, forecasting models, and commercial insights to support purchasing and stock planning decisions.
Forecasting future product demand using historical sales data, seasonal trends, and market intelligence.
Making recommendations on future product ranges, stock levels, and purchasing strategies based on performance analysis.
Developing and maintaining advanced Excel reports, dashboards, Pivot Tables, and forecasting tools.
Monitoring product profitability, stock turnover, and sales performance to optimise commercial outcomes.
Working closely with senior management to provide data-driven recommendations that support business growth.
Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships across the UK and Europe.
Negotiating pricing, lead times, and supply agreements to ensure best value for the business.
Coordinating purchase orders and supplier deliveries to maintain stock availability.
Identifying opportunities to introduce new product lines based on customer demand and market trends.
Supporting supplier reviews and product range evaluations through performance reporting and analysis.
Continuously reviewing purchasing processes and reporting methods to improve efficiency and decision-making.
Utilising systems including Microsoft Navision, Volo Commerce, and Microsoft Excel to manage purchasing, inventory, and performance data.

Skills & Experience

Previous experience in purchasing, procurement, buying, merchandising, stock planning, commercial analysis, inventory planning, or supply chain roles.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, reporting, forecasting, and data analysis.
Strong analytical and numerical abilities with experience interpreting large data sets and translating findings into commercial recommendations.
Experience producing management reports, sales analysis, performance dashboards, and forecasting models.
Proven ability to analyse sales trends and make commercially sound purchasing recommendations.
Strong commercial awareness with an understanding of stock management, product performance, and profitability.
Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
Ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects within a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills with the confidence to present findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
Experience using ERP systems, ideally Microsoft Navision or similar platforms.
Experience within retail, e-commerce, wholesale, distribution, or product-based environments would be highly advantageous.
A proactive and solutions-focused approach with a passion for data-driven decision-making.
