Summary

Due to a service redesign to increase diagnostic capacity in Ophthalmology services across Staffordshire and Derbyshire localities, we are looking to significantly expand our team of Diagnostic Ophthalmic Technicians (DOT's) to support with the implementation of new diagnostic lanes.

These diagnostic lanes will provide the throughput needed to meet the current and future demand in Ophthalmology with this model creating a sustainable service which safely manages the increasing demand in Ophthalmology.

An exciting opportunity has therefore arisen for motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our Diagnostic Ophthalmic team to provide high quality Ophthalmic diagnostic assessments across the Derbyshire and Staffordshire areas to include Royal Derby Hospital, Queens Hospital Burton, and the wider community hospital sites.

The successful candidates will be asked for their preference of working in the Derbyshire or the Staffordshire locality, applicants can also include their preferred locality on the supporting information of their application.

Clinical duties to be undertaken across the UHDB Trust sites include:

- Optical Coherance Tomography of the Optic nerve and Retinal nerve fibre layer.
- Optical Coherence Tomography of the Retina and Macula.
- Static perimetry using the Humphrey Visual Field analyser.
- Fundus photography.
- Focimetry and transposition.
- Intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements using non-contact tonometry (e.g. iCare tonometer).
- Biometry - with appropriate training and competency assessments, on a clinical need basis (site dependent).
- Visual Acuity assessment

The successful candidates will also provide training to less experienced Diagnostic Ophthalmic Technicians and will assess their competencies in line with departmental guidelines and the appropriate care certificate modules.

Administrative duties will be undertaken as required at the request of the Lead DOT and Orthoptic staff.
