Summary
The role has been developed in response to the evolving direction of the project, bringing together practical outdoor learning, environmental engagement, volunteer development and community participation into a single integrated post. Working across a range of activities, the successful candidate will help deliver accessible and hands-on learning opportunities focused on biodiversity, conservation, traditional land-based knowledge and positive community wellbeing outcomes.
The role will support the long-term ambition of establishing The Plock as a recognised community learning and engagement space rooted in nature, heritage and sustainability. Key Responsibilities
Outdoor Learning & Community Engagement
Deliver and support practical outdoor learning sessions, workshops and activities for volunteers, schools, young people, families and wider community participants.
Facilitate inclusive and accessible engagement opportunities that encourage participation in environmental, heritage and wellbeing-based activities.
Support the development of seasonal learning programmes linked to biodiversity, conservation, nature connection and traditional land-based skills.
Environmental & Conservation Activity
Assist with practical habitat management and conservation work across The Plock, including woodland management, meadow enhancement, biodiversity projects and environmental improvement initiatives.
Support the delivery of citizen science activity, ecological surveys and biodiversity monitoring in partnership with organisations including the James Hutton Institute and other project partners.
Assist with the maintenance and use of learning infrastructure including the pond-dipping platform, ranger facilities, growing spaces and outdoor learning areas.
Volunteer Development
Recruit, support and encourage volunteers participating in Plock College activities and wider environmental initiatives.
Help build confidence, skills and community ownership through practical participation and peer learning opportunities.
Support positive relationships with local groups, schools, partner organisations and community participants.
Programme Support & Administration
Work collaboratively with the Environmental Education Officer, Traditional Skills Officer and wider KLCT team to support joined-up project delivery.
Assist with activity planning, session coordination, record keeping and monitoring information required for funders and trustees.
Contribute to the promotion and visibility of Plock College activities through basic photography, social media content and community engagement where appropriate.
Ensure safe working practices are maintained, including carrying out risk assessments and following relevant health and safety procedures.
