Key Results and deliverables:
Competently perform a full range of basic lung function tests on adults and paediatric out-patients and in-patients.Competently analyse basic lung function tests on adults and paediatric patients.Review and prioritise web ice requests lung function tests.Effectively, promptly and professionally respond to emergency situations maintaining control and requesting assistance as necessary. Participate in training for on-going professional development.Assist with the efficient running of the technical service by prioritising the daily workload where appropriate.Responsible for identifying equipment faults and directly resolve fault issues by reporting them in a timely manner to the lead specialist clinical physiologist.Assist in the day-to-day running of the area in which they are working; ensuring all equipment is operational, stock levels are maintained and that equipment and non-disposable items are cleaned according to departmental policies and procedures. Aware of economical use of supplies.Remain up-to-date with latest trends in clinical physiology translating these into practice.Participate in the in-house training and technical competency log within the department.Ensure all patients receive appropriate and individualised care. Administrative Responsibilities Ensure that all data entered onto any databases are performed in a timely and accurate manner and that statistical records and audits are produced when required. Management and Leadership ResponsibilitiesEnsure a high standard of patient care is delivered and agreed protocols andpolicies adhered to.Assist senior staff in ensuring the effective operation of the department on a day-to-day basis.Clinical supervision of respiratory physiologist staff that are less skilled. Professional responsibilities:Conduct self in a professional manner at all times.Demonstrate good morale with open communication between all levels of staff and disciplines.Contribute to and actively participate in the correct reporting and handling of incidents and accidents. Education and development responsibilities: Possess or gain accreditation with the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists(RCCP).Work in accordance to standards set by the Association for Respiratory Technology and Physiology (ARTP) and the RCCP.Familiar with the use of computerised systems integral to the running of the department.Actively participate and commit to maintaining own personal professional development, identifying educational and clinical training needs in conjunction with the lead specialist clinical physiologist.Ensure that own mandatory training is up-to-date.Attend and contribute to departmental teaching sessions in Respiratory Medicine.Support and deliver spirometry training courses

Research and Audit ResponsibilitiesAssist the Lead Physiologist with strategic direction to an ongoing and successful research program.Assist in ensuring accreditation compliance for Respiratory Physiology ServicesManaging Resources ResponsibilitiesEnsure all equipment used is maintained in a good, clean and safe order at all times and report any loss or defect to the lead specialist clinical physiologist,Ensure the safe and proper use of expensive diagnostic equipment.Education and Training
Support with the development of the Respiratory and Sleep physiology apprentices

Support local training of junior colleagues

Responsible for ensuring own development needs are identified and mandatory training compliance is maintained

5. Confidentiality

Infection ControlThe post-holder will ensure that (s)he follows the Trust’s hospital infection prevention and control (HIC) policies and procedures to protect patients, staff, and visitors from healthcare-associated infections. He or she will ensure that (s)he performs the correct hand hygiene procedures (as described in HIC 14), when carrying out clinical duties. He or she will use aseptic technique and personal protective equipment in accordance with Trust policies. All staff must challenge non-compliance with infection, prevention, and control policies immediately and feedback through the appropriate line managers if required.8. Safeguarding Children and Adults
The Trust takes its statutory responsibilities to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and adults very seriously. The Board of Directors expects all staff will identify with their manager during the SDR process their own responsibilities appropriate to their role in line with statute and guidance. This will include accessing safeguarding training and may include seeking advice, support and supervision from the trust safeguarding children or safeguarding adult teams. Where individuals and managers are unclear of those responsibilities they are expected to seek advice from the safeguarding teams.
