Summary
An opportunity for a senior nursing post within the division of Surgery. This post would suit someone who is highly motivated and looking for an opportunity to develop further. You will be involved in leadership and management with support from the lead CNS.
We seek a compassionate, dynamic and motivated experienced individual to join our well established and supportive Upper GI CNS team.
Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills will be necessary as they are integral to your success , providing the highest standard of care and support to patients with an upper GI cancer diagnosis. The ability to manage distressing situations and acting as a key worker to ensure a point of contact during a complex pathway. The ability to work autonomously and as part of the multidisciplinary team, along with developing positive and collaborative relationships are integral to this role. This position provides an excellent role for a someone with band 6 experience already within surgery/oncology and/or already working as a CNS. It provides a new exciting challenge for an individual who is looking to gain experience in leadership and service improvements.
You need to be self-motivated and have a flexible approach to work, good organisational skills and the ability to influence others, acting as a role model across disciplines and demonstrate excellent communication skills with computer literacy and awareness of the UGI cancer pathways.
• To demonstrate clinical decision-making skills and an ability to monitor and improve standards of care within the Upper GI service.
• The UGI CNS will be influencing patient care with a multi-faceted approach that includes clinical knowledge, teaching and audit. In discussion with the Lead CNS and other CNSs within the team, the post holder will equip the primary carers with the required skills and knowledge to facilitate a high standard of care to all patients with upper GI cancer from referrals and throughout their disease trajectory.
• To ensure a collaborative approach with the multi-disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive patient focused service.
• The UGI CNS's main role is to provide care to patients with Upper GI cancer. The specialist nurse will acquire the specialist knowledge to enable them to give advice in symptom control, emotional and psychological support.
• The CNS will develop communication pathways with key stakeholders across health and social care.
• The role requires an innovative nurse with a sound vision of nursing and a commitment to providing a high standard of individual patient care.
• The CNS will influence patient care by working with the other CNSs to develop their skills in the sphere of clinical practice, management, leadership, education, research and audit and professional activities.
• The CNS will work under supervision to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge as specified within the competency framework
