Summary
The Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist to join the Medium Secure Inpatient Services. This is a newly created post, arising from the continued expansion of the Trust’s Medium Secure Services. The post comprises 7.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) sessions and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) sessions.
The service delivers specialist medium secure inpatient care for the Merseyside and Cheshire regions. Rowan View, which opened in 2020, provides 95 inpatient beds (85 male and 10 female) for individuals with a primary diagnosis of mental illness. In addition, Rowan View delivers medium secure care for men with a primary diagnosis of Learning Disability.
Higher trainees lead on admission assessments under Consultant supervision, and each Consultant is supported by resident doctors. This post has a Core Psychiatry Trainee (CT2 or CT3) allocated.
The role requires close collaborative working with Low Secure Units, community forensic teams, step-down services, and other partner agencies to ensure effective progression of patients through the forensic care pathway.
The psychiatry role is for a Responsible Clinician at Rowan View Medium Secure Unit. This is anticipated to equate to a case load of approximately 15 male inpatients. There are on average 20 new admissions per year, divided equally among the consultants. The post includes responsibilities for a defined case load at Rowan View and as a one of several visiting forensic consultants to one of the local category B prisons (HMP Liverpool or HMP Altcourse).
This post is for 10 sessions per week.
You will be expected to hold a full GMC registration. MRCPsych qualification is desirable. Candidates who are included in the Specialist Register for Forensic Psychiatry or within six months of entry to the Register at the time of application are welcome to apply.
You must be approved under Section 12(2) of The Mental Health Act 1983 and must have Approved Clinician (AC) status.
