About this opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Group Payments team and play a key role in shaping and delivering our Technology Strategy. Working closely with senior architects and business stakeholders, you'll support the development of architectural direction that enables the Group's strategic ambitions.

You'll help translate strategy into practical architecture outcomes, ensuring solutions are aligned to our technology principles, business priorities and risk appetite.

Group Payments is a critical part of the Group's growth strategy. We process around 20% of the UK's payments, supporting everything from everyday transactions through to large-scale domestic and international payments. We're on a journey to transform our payments platforms using modern technologies, while exploring innovations such as distributed ledger technology, blockchain and digital assets across real-world use cases.

In this role, you'll contribute to that transformation, helping shape solutions that deliver value at scale.

As a result, day-to-day you would…

  • Support the development and evolution of architecture within the Payments domain, ensuring alignment to Group strategy

  • Work closely with Lead Architects to create and maintain architecture roadmaps, patterns and guardrails

  • Act as a trusted partner to technology and business teams, providing architectural guidance and insight

  • Contribute to architecture governance, ensuring solutions meet standards, risk requirements and strategic objectives

  • Develop and maintain architecture artefacts, including designs, roadmaps and feasibility assessments

  • Apply knowledge of cloud, APIs, traditional hosting and event-driven architectures to support solution design

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an agile environment to deliver end-to-end outcomes

About us

We're on an exciting journey and there couldn't be a better time to join us. The investments we're making in our people, data, and technology are leading to innovative projects, fresh possibilities, and new ways of working.

What you'll need:

  • Experience working in an Architecture role, contributing to strategy, solution design and delivery

  • Knowledge of architecture practices including governance, roadmapping and solution development

  • Technical understanding of cloud platforms, APIs, traditional hosting and event-driven architectures

  • Ability to support business and technology stakeholders, translating requirements into architectural solutions

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with an agile and delivery-focused mindset

  • An understanding of Payments within Financial Services

  • Awareness of emerging technologies such as blockchain and digital assets and their potential application
